Shir Poetry: happy :)

This is it.
One life we have.
There is no second try.
Friendships will fade
And lessons learned
As seasons change our mind.

Condense moments of sorrow
Be it forced,
Or fake,
Or tried.
Just dance like no one's watching
And the rest will come in time.

Be true to your own reason
Make happiness your game
Embrace your every feeling
And smile away the pain.

Be happy everyday :)

Shir Poetry: rain on me.

It's too quiet now-a-days
The sounds in here just aren't the same
Where is the ringing in the moments of the day?
Back in this bubble sound is bleak
It's only buzzing when they speak
There's no excitement when they talk about the rain.

My sleep is peaceful every night
Nothing to stir this busy mind
And I am left to dream of memories once shared.
But I'll keep singing 'til I fly
Relive the times that keep me high
And wait patiently for it to rain on me.

Pablo Neruda: Bird

It was passed from one bird to another,
the whole gift of the day.
The day went from flute to flute,
went dressed in vegetation,
in flights which opened a tunnel
through the wind would pass
to where birds were breaking open
the dense blue air -
and there, night came in.

When I returned from so many journeys,
I stayed suspended and green
between sun and geography -
I saw how wings worked,
how perfumes are transmitted
by feathery telegraph,
and from above I saw the path,
the springs and the roof tiles,
the fishermen at their trades,
the trousers of the foam;
I saw it all from my green sky.
I had no more alphabet
than the swallows in their courses,
the tiny, shining water
of the small bird on fire
which dances out of the pollen.

Shir Poetry: Somewhere

An ocean of chances not taken
Left a future to run off its course
If I had only the strength then, I have now
I'd be elsewhere.

Every moment that passes I'm stronger
All the while filled with fear it's too late
With assurance our dream was still wanted
We'd be elsewhere.

Unleashed from what held me so captive
Now no longer afraid to be free
A freedom we could share together,
And be somewhere.

Shir Poetry: Hand Holding

Feel my hand across the world,
It's warm and safe to touch.
Whenever you are lonely
Pick it up.
We're a thousand miles apart
And yet you're always by my side
When my hand is in your hand
And yours in mine.
Your palms tell me your stories
I can almost feel you smile
Just by holding to your hand
While smiling too.
And when you're sad I feel that pain
And wish that I could make it pass
Just by squeezing both our hands
With all my might.
Vibrations in this hold
Does that feeling pass to you?
I'll let you hold my hand
Until you feel it too.

Shir Poetry: My You

I miss the me I was with you
And the version of you that was mine.

I see you now,
A familiar stranger
And you're just not you anymore.

Grown up and far gone,
Our lives have moved on,
Past the we that we were with just us.

Yet when I reflect
On the time that we shared
You're the you that I hold in my heart:
And as time moves forward you stay there,
Never changing,
Always mine-
At least to the me that I was for you too.
That's the you that I miss,
The one that I've saved
My own personal version of you.

Shir Poetry: I'm OK with that

I go to bed alone and I'm OK with that,
Because at least I have a bed to keep me warm.
I greet the day alone but I'm just fine with that,
Because at least I wake up in a stable home.
I don't always have someone to call each moment
And I don't always have a plan for Friday night
So I don't shy away from talk about the weather
Cause it's ok to not have something on your mind.
Everyday above the ground is something special.
With every breathe I take I feel that I'm alive.
And I can say for fact that I'm a decent person
Depsite some scummy ones I've let into my life.
I can look into a mirror and feel pretty.
Without a hint of narcissism in the way,
And when I look back on the paths I took to get here
I don't regret a single step I took to date.
I'd erase the painful memories in storage
If I could save the lessons that I learned from them
I am me because of everyday before this
And I'll be OK with how things turn out in the end.

Shir Poetry: From back in the day...

Here are a few oldies that I wrote back in the day. They're not that challenging, but they sure are fun :)

UNIVERSITY!!

A never ending party
With a pricey cover fee
A flood of youthful bodies
Not too sure of what to be

Endless shots of vodka
And clubs called 'century'
The biggest stress the frosh face
Is to find good fake ID!

Instant, boundless freedom
Self-responsibility
New found independence
Means we do our own laundry

A place of 'education'
To be all that we can be?
FUCK THAT! Have a beer!
Cheers, to University!!

Release

When you're feeling stressed out
And need a break from life
When all your problems stab you
Like a dull and rusty knife

When all you need is perking up
A bright red EXIT sign
There's three thing I can think of
To put things back in line

Stress is universal
A nasty wretched hex
And our defense against it
Is LIQUOR, DRUGS, and SEX!

Shir Poetry: I have a voice

I have a voice that seldom sleeps,
And in my mind it's always speaking thoughts to me.
I wish the world could hear its cries,
Could hear the message that's been building up inside.
They’d seek out truth,
They’d see my dream:
A world devoid of hate,
A world of peace.
Please heed this voice,
Its selfless plea,
A hug for each and every person that you see.
Through child-like eyes
The way is clear
I have a voice I wish that everyone could hear.

Shir Poetry: Untitled

The brightest rays of summer
Mask the darkness of the day
A celebrated death hides in the light.

The passing on of yesterday
Still looms in present time,
An affliction to a joyous age.

The ultimate surrender
Consigns a hollow upper hand
Left abandoned in stalemate eternity.

Disgust bound with obsession
Leads to triumph out of loss,
Concluded as an outcome with no end.

The Sonnets of William Shakespeare

CXXXVIII.

When my love swears that she is made of truth,
I do believe her, though I know she lies,
That she might think me some untutor`d youth,
Unlearned in the world`s false subtleties.
Thus vainly thinking that she thinks me young,
Although she knows my days are past the best,
Simply I credit her false-speaking tongue:
On both sides thus is simple truth suppress`d.
But wherefore says she not she is unjust?
And wherefore say not I that I am old?
O! love`s best habit is in seeming trust,
And age in love loves not to have years told:
Therefore I lie with her, and she with me,
And in our faults by lies we flatter`d be.

Shir Poetry: Moments

I have these moments stored in my mind.
A small collection of fond memories of mine.

It's in those moments,
Those times alone,
When I would feel the best of feeling,
So... alive.
But in this moment
Called present time
There are no moments such as those
That come to mind.

For now those moments
I see were lies,
And all those moments have now passed-
Life can't rewind.
So here I stand
Corrupt and scaved
Forever burdened with moments from which I'm shamed.
You left me broke but I've still hope
I'll find a feeling for today.

Forever 21

I always knew this time would come. Still, it crept up on me quicker than I anticipated. 21 the age I always wanted to be, and now the age I do not want to give up.

As I enter my 22nd year of life, I find myself overwhelmed by a flood of bittersweet emotions; happy for the future, but sad to leave the past behind. University has been the most amazing experience of my life, the good times were great and even the bad times were good… at least in retrospect. In the last 4 years I learned so much about life, love, and happiness, but I learned the most about myself.

I learned that if there is one person in this world we should be totally honest with it’s ourselves. In order to be happy we must embrace our own truth, accept it for what it is because it’s the one thing that will never fail us.

Friendship:

It’s the most sacred of all bonds. It’s a connection - a mutual agreement - between you and another human being that says, “Hey I really like you…let’s be there for each other.” Sadly, friends aren’t always forever. If you’re lucky you will find one who will stick by you through this crazy journey we call life. Someone who understands who you REALLY are… someone, with only your best interests at heart.

Relationships:

The most complicated, frustrating, painful, wonderful, necessary things in life. There is no emotion that compares to the power and intensity of LOVE. Love if beautiful. It is different for every person and therefore it cannot be defined. All you need is love.

“For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. For those who don’t, no explanation is ever enough.”

Growing through adolescence I experienced love in many forms, reaching the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows. Is it better to have loved and lost than to have never loved before? YES. With luck you will find the one person with whom you want to share your life with, to grow old with, your soulmate. Someone who completes you as a person… a best friend who loves you, unconditionally and irrevocably .

Family:

They are an extension of ourselves. Family is forever.

The “teenage rebellion” is an ongoing feud with adult society. A self-fulfilling prophecy, from which we are not given the chance to escape. Most of us don’t want to rebel, we simply desire to experience new things in life. OUR lives. Give us guidance not dictatorship. Once parents stop expecting us to be a certain way and start accepting the way we are, they will have found the key to our world.

Talk to your parents. Tell them your secrets, your fears, your dreams.
Most importantly, tell them you love them. Everyday.

Siblings:

Siblings can be your best friend or the biggest pain in the ass, and yet they are forever important and dear to us. An older one to follow or a younger one to guide… from them we learn what it means to lead, to stand out, to grow, to share. We learn what it means to be unique.

One thing I can always carry with is the fact that I do not regret anything. Shit happens, that’s life. Every experience we experience, every person we meet, every fight we have, every heart we break, every move we make, that’s life. I control my own destiny; you control you’re own destiny.

Growing up is moving forward on a line that will inevitably come to an end. We are given so little time to be happy, sad, excited, to hate, to love, to breathe, to live. You have this one life to live, so don’t waste it.
This is my life and I refuse to.
Forever 21… at heart.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Shir Poetry: Woosh [2005]

Wrap your arms around me,
Never let me go.
Touch my tummy lightly,
Kiss me nice and slow.

Whisper words of romance
Gently in my ear,
Tell me you'll protect me,
That there's nothing to fear.

Take me as your partner,
Your lover, and you're friend
And when I say I love you
I'll love you 'til the end.

Shir Poetry: Still

Still,
Apart from breathe.
Around me turns a world,
yet,
I am still.
Eyes,
locked forward,
bound in an empty gaze.
Because my eyes-

while clearly open,
cannot see.
Engulfed inside a sea of sounds once meant for notice-
I hear,
not one.
While the touch of flesh against my skin,
makes me whole,

and I am numbed.
So still I am,
I do not feel that I am not.

Slowly rising,
Slowly falling.
Fused into the space where I belong-
a perfect fit.
Still,
in this place,
Still,

like this.

Shir Poetry (get it?): Don't Forget Me

This is the first good poem I've ever written. And by good I mean the kind of poem that doesn't stick to the standard rhyming-4-line-verse-poems that I spent most of my childhood writing. It was this very poem that inspired me to start a blog and I hope you find meaning in these words, as well as the words of any future poetry to come. Welcome to my absurd mind.

Don't forget me.

We say we want to forget it all,
to make it easy.
And yet the furthest thing from easy,
is this.
Every breathe, every thought, every touch, every kiss...
That's me, that's you, that's us.
Life is pain,
hidden behind your smile,
where time is the only enemy.
For me, for you, for us.
So I wait,
for when my soul is released from its captivity.
Left free to be me, to be you, to be us.
Alone together.
Don’t forget.
Just hold on.
